Microsoft Announces Surface

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 10:04 am

At a surprise press conference yesterday, Microsoft unveiled Surface, a new line of tablets powered by Windows 8 and manufactured by Microsoft itself. The two models revealed each include the Window 8 OS, integrated kickstand and a detachable cover with keyboard functionality. No release date or price was announced, nor were many solid details revealed about how Surface will make use of existing Microsoft Assets like Xbox Live. However, it should be noted that Microsoft recently revealed SmartGlass, a new program that will allow your Xbox to wirelessly stream media to tablets, smartphones and other wired devices.

We'll keep you posted on Surface developments as they are revealed.

Space Invaders On Your Walls

These Space Invaders stickers from Blik are too cool not to share. We've tested out Blik's stuff before and love it, so naturally these retro game decals get our seal of approval. Stick 'em on, take 'em off, defend Earth from nasty aliens. Good stuff. Check 'em out right here

Humble Indie Bundle Not So Humble Anymore

Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:00 am

If I could completely subsist off of independent video games, I would. In the last six weeks, I've played through Journey, Limbo, Bastion, and Braid again, and I'm working through Catherine (bigger, but still). I love how off the wall they get. Give up more intangibles with fewer tangibles. That sort of thing.

So, I'm pleased to announce that the wonderful Humble Indie Bundle 5 will be offering donors these games, on PC, Mac, or Linux:

-Amnesia: The Dark Descent

And the Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP. And, if you spend more than the average donation, which is about $7, you'll be getting yourself Bastion and its soundtrack. Which are both very, very awesome. Money goes to help sick kids. So don't be a dick!

Five Of The Best Videos From E3 So Far

Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 10:00 am
E3 is in full swing. For the most part, there is a surprise here and there, but we aren't seeing anything so mind-liquefying or culture shocking as we always expect during this season. This HD generation has creaky old bones. Opulence has already been witnessed in years past. Seventh generation born franchises are getting deep into their third and fourth iteration.

But we've seen a few videos for games that offer up some real potential excitement. I'm going to list them for you as games to keep an eye on. Or, if not, at least something to feast your eyes on for the time being.

Among The Sleep Is Some Unique New Horror

Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:00 am

Since Amnesia: The Dark Descent came out, I feel like the whole horror game fan base is just waiting for a slew of similar psychological/Clock Tower-esque survival horror games to drop. It was too brilliant as a horror experience to not get its mimickers. Experience surviving rather than fighting for it. Lovely.

Well, Among the Sleep, a new horror sim from Krillbite, takes the mystery and majesty of Amnesia and sticks it in front of the eyes of a toddler. And from the gameplay footage, you can see just the kind of nightmarish opulence we could be in store for.

So, you're one of the dozen people that owns a PS3 and doesn't have the first two Uncharted games yet. Well, you're wasting your time. And you can stop wasting your time with this simple bit of news information and what will likely amount to about $30.

According to PSBlog, both Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be available for download on June 26, 2012 on the PlayStation Network. The prices are not included in this, but I'd say you're looking at $19.99 for Uncharted 2 and $9.99 for the debut title. That would seem about right to me.

Will Diablo III's Auction House End Gold-Farming?

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 10:00 am

JD homie Greg Voakes has sent us many a tip over the last couple years, many of which have ended up on this page. And now our friend has found himself a gig at a pretty prestigious gig of his own: We will always support those who have supported us, so we're happy to bring his new piece to your attention. In it, he speculates on how Diablo III's auction house feature could effectively end the practice of gold farming. Check it out right here, good folks.

Totally Forgot To Post This Ghost Recon Short Movie

Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 am
They say it's a trailer -- a teaser that is supposed to give fans the smell of blood in the water. We circle in anticipation for the game's release. Yadda yadda yadda. This is a thing about Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Trailer is a stretch. When I see trailer I think a few minutes of gameplay footage and a gruff narrator.

Ubisoft, here's a hint. Don't make live-action trailers. No one gives a shit about them, and they don't really tell us anything about the game.

What you gotta do is make this sort of shit, label it "a short film inspired by the events within Ghost Recon" and market it as collateral storytelling. That's interesting, and the production value on this is pretty awesome.

The Last Of Us Gets Another Trailer

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 10:00 am
Pretty much, Naughty Dog's track record of excellent game creation effectively forces us to keep our eyes on what they've whipped up for us next. The Last Of Us is that next. And it is, at the very least, a gloriously crisp looking game.

Now, this isn't gameplay footage, so don't get too high on it, but the real potential of the PlayStation 3 is showcased, and we're happy to watch.

Check back for more later -- this one is still young.
