First, I have to admit that I haven't seen the Green Lantern movie. And, I'm not super familiar with the comic or the character. So, I went into my achievement hunting experienced with Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters with a pretty high degree of curiosity about this green spandex clad dreamboat and his seemingly magical hands of destruction.
|I'm so lost in those eyes, I need a map to find my way home|
Right out of the gate I'm hitting my stride, unlocking three achievements for
70 points literally within five minutes:
- Just Getting Started - Performed a 20 hit combat (20 points)
- What Goes Up... - Launched 20 enemies (20 points)
- On a Roll - Performed a 50 hit combo (30 points)
Like most games of this vein, achievements are pretty simple. My first three unlocks are gained by literally just smashing on the X button. Like Pavlov's dog, my years of achievement hunting have trained me well. I am a PRO when it comes to pressing X! I can do this!
Soon after, I gain the ability to use my Green Lantern ring to blast baddies from a distance - pew pew! Just for fun, I blast a bunch of bad guys and unlock:
- Master Blaster - Defeated 10 enemies with Ring Blaster (15 points)
Punching all these bad guys in the face with my ridiculously morphing hands and shooting them with my capsule toy ring, I've apparently acquired some points to further upgrade my glowing green ham fists. So, I decide to purchase a few new attacks - Mace Storm and War Hammer. Now my hands of death can transform into giant chained maces and a big old hammer! I unleash them on the poor, unfortunate fools standing in my way. And alas, more points come my way:
- Around the World - Defeated 20 enemies with Mace Storm (15 points)
- Blunt Justice - Defeat 10 enemies with War Hammer (15 points)
Wait a second, level 1 just ended? This game is confusing. Not having seen the movie, nor having any real knowledge of Green Lantern, has made the first level in the game a green blur, and not in a good way. I have no idea what's going on. I think it has something to do with Manhunters and Kilowogs and Sinestro's and Guardians. And Ryan Reynolds.
|This is apparently a Kilowog|
But who cares? I got another achievement!
- Invasion - Cleared Mission 1 (10 points)
At this point my two and a half month old baby starts crying, ripping me out of the world of green spandex and giant hammers and back into reality. While my time with Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is over for tonight, I've pulled in a good haul for literally 12 minutes of gameplay - 135 achievement points! If the first level is any indicator of what lies ahead in the rest of it, this game is going to be cake and I should have my 1K in a couple of days. The Achievement Hunter has wounded his prey and smells a kill in the near future. He also apparently refers to himself in the third person.
Until next time, happy hunting!
