But the Wii U will open up a lot of the 7th Generation to owners of the Nintendo Wii. Big names are already hopping on its potential, citing that its power and unique tablet-like controller pose opportunities for development. Even Bethesda, who has notoriously skirted Nintendo consoles for their lack of power, is considering a port come mid-next year, when the device drops.
In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine UK, Bethesda suit Pete Hines has stated that Bethesda will "look into any platform that will support the games [they're] trying to make, but that's the key thing -- the console has to support the game as its designed."
He cited financial issues (obviously) when claiming his hesitations for porting to the Wii U, because when ports occur, they need to be redone in multiple languages (called localization), and recreated to run on that particular platform. Even across the typical consoles, new testers, translators, and voice actors need to be employed to make it all possible.
But, on the positive, he ended with, "we'll see. It is definitely a possibility."
The game drops November 11, 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. If it ports to the Wii U, it will be released far later -- when the console is actually in existence. However, it must be said that Nintendo is becoming a much more appealing console for core gamers, in addition to the casual, as these third-party titles ought to make it hum.
Even Irrational's Ken Levine was on board with it at E3 2011, appearing in a video endorsing the product and how appealing it was to developers. This kind of excitement could be the difference between the Wii U and a lot of Nintendo consoles in the past. Hopefully, the brand doesn't alienate large portions of the gaming community with its "unique" features and weak headliners, like it did with the Nintendo Wii (motion-sensors) and the 3DS (glasses-less 3D).
