Joystick Division reported last week that a leaked page scan from an upcoming issue of Famitsu magazine had outed what appeared to be an official Nintendo 3DS attachment that provides the system with an additional thumb slider, as well as additional buttons.

Following Nintendo's pre-TGS press event, it has now been confirmed that, yeah, the thing exists.

Not only that, but they actually gave the peripheral a Japanese launch date and an official price.

For our readers in Japan (There are some, right?) you folks can get your hands on the new slider periph come Dec. 10. No word on if the device will be making its way overseas but, with several big games already announced to be utilizing the device, we think it's a pretty safe bet the rest of the world will have the opportunity to enjoy all that extra control at some point in the future.

And about those games? Launching hand-in-hand with the slider attachment will be Monster Hunter Tri G on Dec. 10. The 3DS zombie frag-fest, Resident Evil: Revelations, will also support the device, as well as Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D and Dynasty Warriors VS.

See what we mean? While the extra buttons/slider won't be mandatory for those games, we've got think most 3DS owners around the world will want to at least have the option. Nintendo would be throwing away money, otherwise.

How much money? According to the pre-TGS presser, it'll be going for 1500 yen ($19.99). You'll also want to stock up on AAA batteries, as one is required to power the device.
