In a lengthy interview with Gamespot, Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen has revealed that the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will feature all kinds of upgradable items, including the shield and the beetle.
The Legend of Zelda series has oft been referred to as the "RPG" franchise, and in many respects it most certainly is. But the ability to upgrade and customize items is now a keystone in the genre's fabric, and LOZ is just getting there. So, welcome, I guess, the greatest RPG franchise of them all, to RPGs. Right?
No specific confirmation on weapons, but it just seems if they're going to have upgradable items, the items that are most used should probably be afforded the same specialty. Thanks to Gamespot for this intriguing interview.

Wow that boss is a dude? This whole time I thought it was a chick...
Just a heads-up - in the last sentence of your article you thank "Gamestop" rather than "Gamespot" for the interview. Happens to me to, just thought you should know. Otherwise, this video is sweet.
OMG I cannot wait for this game to come out, it is LONG over due!
