Wii to let you buy food and a table to eat off of
While Nintendo recently filed a patent that could make the DS a permanent fixture in your grocery shopping trips, guiding you from isle to isle, organizing your list and all that jazz, the Wii is being primed to serve as your one stop shop for online commerce...in Japan.

As far as applications go, the Wii is pretty lacking. Rather than turn the product into a media hub, the system does little more than provide you with weather updates and a look at AP news articles from around the globe. Nice and all, but it's been four years since the system launched and, dang it, we deserve more bells and whistles.

Well, Japanese gamers will soon have one more reason to boot up the tiny white box once an in-home shopping option is launched, turning the system into a legitimate e-commerce machine.

Once the program launches, supposedly later this month, Nintendo will offer a wide variety of goods to be purchased without ever having to leave the couch. (I'm fairly certain we lazy Yanks would have been a better starting market, but what do I know?)

According to a statement made by Nintendo's Satoru Iwata, the program will launch with more than 10,000 products available for purchase initially, growing from there. Among these products will be everything from groceries to furniture, clothing and more.

Unfortunately, no plans have been announced to launch the service outside the land of the rising sun. If it meets with success, though, it's hard to imagine Nintendo wouldn't want to rake in money from the other 99.9 percent of the world's population.
