PlayStation sets you up on a date with Dracula this Saturday
Gamers sometimes forget that those shiny, sophisticated boxes of wires and whatchyamajigs can do much more than spin your favorite disc of FPS bliss. With video services available on the Xbox and PS3, Netflix streaming for all three major consoles, the ability to browse the net, play music and more, there's loads of ways to kill time that doesn't involve pulling the trigger or yelling at teammates for not watching where they chuck a grenade.

Sony hopes to remind folks of one such service with a weekly special event that will allow visitors to PSN to download one free movie every Saturday. There's a couple catches, but the gist of it is that all you need to do is fire up your PS3, press a couple of buttons and, pow, you've got a free movie.

The promotion is being called "Midnight Movies" and, through it, video store visitors will gain access to a pre-selected film each week for a free rental. Keeping with the Halloween spirit, this week's first selection is Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The final caveat for taking advantage of this offer is that you must sign into PSN between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. EST to download the film. Though not exactly "midnight," this at least gives some insight as to where the promotion's name came from.

To grab your free rental of Dragila (that's how we fancy-pants writers pronounce it), head to the PSN movie section's "Halloween Horror Flicks" tab this Saturday evening. There's no telling how long this promotion will continue or what sort of selection will be available in the week's ahead, but the available library for Sony to choose from is massive and, hey, a free movie is a free movie.
