| Say "Halo" to some rad pumpkin art |
Halloween is less than two weeks away, and that means you're running out of time to pick out a costume, stock up on candy and carve up some pumpkins.
While many will settle for the stereotypical traingle-eyed face with a zig-zagging grin, some prefer to take their pumpkin carving artistry up a couple dozen notches. From elaborate depictions of haunted houses to the use of pumpkin innards to make it look like the face on the gourd just threw up the contents of its nonexistent stomach, designs are only limited by the imagination of the creator.
But, it just so happens we are a video game site and, as such, we here at Joystick Division can't help but be drawn to Halloween masterpieces inspired by our favorite hobby.
Be sure to click past the link for a gallery of five of our favorite video game-inspired carvings.
Big Daddy
The lumbering Big Daddies of
Bioshock's Rapture are likely to join the likes of Mario and Sonic as some of history's most recognizable video game characters. As such, it's only fitting the mammoths be carved into a pumpkiny tribute to their awesomeness.
Hyrule crest
People are always showing pride for where they come from with state flags and logos for local sporting teams hanging from their porches or plastered on their cars. Hyrule has become a home away from home for many gamers, making its official crest an obvious focus for a festive gourd.
Portal
These pumpkins are a triumph. Any
Portal fan should be able to instantly appreciate pumpkins that show there's always more than one way to solve a problem and, yes, the cake is a lie.
Borderlands
One of the more detailed pumpkins of the lot, this rendition of the Borderlands box art showcasing a crazed bandit is just begging for a full clip of incendiary rounds to light up the night.
Mario
This one's pretty much too good for words. Whoever has the time, patience and skill to create such a work of pumpkin art deserves a round of applause. *
begins slow clap*
