Aside from the pixelated title and story screens, there's not much that relates this incredibly bare bones top-down shooter to the upcoming release of Tom Clany's HAWX 2. In fact, the "HAWX 2: The 8-bit game," as it's officially titled, resembles arcade classics like 1942 much more than Ubisoft's ultra-modern, voice-controlled war game series.

So why are we so excited about the game, then? Because it represents Ubisoft's entry into one of our favorite emerging genres, that of the demake. And even if this demake doesn't really hew too closely to the spirit of its modern inspiration, it implies that Ubisoft might be willing to continue honing their craft and releasing better demakes of their games in the future.

But the only way they're going to do that is if we support them in their admittedly flawed efforts now. So go play this 8-bit HAWX and dream of a better, more retro-inspired future. Do it!
