Rock Band Gets a Futuristic Makeover

For years, I have convinced myself that "The Future" would finally be here when we all had flying cars. That was before today, when this video convinced me "The Future" will finally  be here when we can all play Rock Band with a holographic display locked to real instruments.

Just think... no more awkwardly looking away from the screen to see which keyboard key or guitar fret matches the on-screen color. No more trying to match your real-world movements with the timing of your HDTV's refresh rate. Just colorful notes, floating in mid-air, intersecting with your actual instruments t gently guide your playing.

This vision of our glorious rhythm game future comes from glorious YouTube user freddiew, who you may remember as the guy who brought games like Portal and Time Crisis into the real world with some clever video production techniques. As far as we can tell this is the first time he's anticipated what gaming might look like in the future, but we certainly hope it's not that last.
