This is real football, not that silly checkered ball wanna-be.
This is the time of year when I feel extremely spoiled. Not only is college football season a mere 60-odd days away, both Madden '11 and NCAA Football '11 are being released very, very soon. The annual announcement of the pre-season top 25 teams is out, and fans all over are assessing, praising, and complaining about how their favorite teams were treated.

The look of the list is not unlike what fans might expect. There have been some gambles made -- a few teams in the top 15 are blatantly picked on favoritism, but overall it looks pretty nice. More and more, this entry in the series is looking to be the most polished and well-presented.

Follow the link for the complete list, team breakdowns, and my two cents.

Here's the Top 25, complete with conferences and team ratings:

 5. Boise State Broncos, WAC (Overall: A-, Offense: A+, Defense: B+)
 4. Oregon Ducks, Pac-10 (Overall: B+, Offense: A-, Defense: B+)
 3. Texas Longhorns, Big 12 (Overall: A-, Offense: A, Defense: A-)
 2. Ohio State Buckeyes, Big 10 (Overall: A, Offense: A+, Defense: A)
 1. Alabama Crimson Tide, SEC (Overall: A+, Offense: A+, Defense: A+)

And there you have it.

The list is fairly balanced, with showings from each of the BCS conferences. The ACC surprisingly had the biggest showing with five teams, while the Big East, once again, fails to impress much -- only two on the top 25, and none inside the top 15. Mid-majors are also represented, with five teams making it in.

Having Oregon, Texas, and Florida inside the top 6 is a bit of a gamble, as none return their starting quarterbacks. USC is also too high, considering the NCAA sanctions that have been placed, and considering the dumbass that is their new coach, but I guess that doesn't make much of a difference in a video game...yet.

It's only a matter of days until this title is released. It will be hitting store shelves on July 13th. I think you'll know where to find me on that day.
