The controversy over the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 continues forward. Yesterday, Direct2Drive announced that because Modern Warfare 2 required an installation of Valve's Steamworks program, they would not be selling the game. This news comes less than a month after Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford called Valve out for exploiting their power.

Many PC gamers out there probably buy games bundled with software all the time, but the issue here is Valve's mandatory installation includes their marketplace. This gives them a leading edge against other digital distributors by default.

What's interesting is, to show that the issue is with Valve and not Activision, Direct2Drive is offering a $5 off special on certain Activision games. I'd be sucking up at this point if I were them too.

Later on in the day, other digital games distributors, Impulse and Gamersgate confirmed that they too would refuse to sell Modern Warfare 2 because of the deal with Valve.
