The Ten Worst Console Games of the Generation (So Far)
Posted by Anton Gordon at 11:21 AM Oct 06, 2009
The following ten games are the worst reviewed titles released to date for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. A few caveats: In those instances in which a game appears on multiple platforms, the lowest score was used. Downloadable are not included on this list. Finally, I've taken a few of the Metacritic quotes and posted them for each game, so you can see what the original reviewers thought. With that, let the hatin' begin!
10. Damnation
Metacritic Score (PS3): 36
Blue Omega's vision is buried under so many layers of clumsy gameplay and painful cinematics that the glimmers of the game that could have been just can't stem the tide. - Play
That's from one of the few positive reviews Damnation received. Easily the best-looking game on this list, that wasn't enough to keep it from horrible reviews, thanks to serious glitches, sloppy gameplay and pretty much every other technical fault you can name.
9. Bomberman: Act Zero
Metacritic Score (360): 34
Bomberman Act: Zero is a perfect example of what happens when game developers have good intentions, but bad ideas. - GamerNode
One of the most misguided relaunches of all time, Hudson took the cute, cuddly Bomberman and made him "dark and edgy." The also removed all the fun from the game, with a single-player mode that was so damn near impossible no one even bothered with the passable multiplayer.
8. Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
Metacritic Score (PS3): 31
I have nothing positive to say about this game. I even hate the menu screen. Perhaps the best thing I can come up with is that this miserable piece of trash is so awful that it's destined to be the worst-selling game of the PS3 launch. - Game Informer
By far the worst game of the PS3 launch, Crossfire was a total mess. Bland, boring, frustrating and ugly, Crossfire was a disaster. Nothing says action like tons of obscure menu screens!
7. Vampire Rain: Altered Species
Metacritic Score (PS3): 30
It's like the developers didn't even play the games that they were blatantly ripping off. - 1UP
Everyone hated this stealth-action mess on Xbox 360, and the PS3 port fared even worse. Take a look at that screenshot - can you believe it's from a game that came out in 2008?
6. ShellShock 2: Blood Trails
Metacritic Score (360): 30
Shellshock 2 is a scandalous FPS made with no apparent knowledge of the genre, little but contempt for its audience, and few tools beyond a spluttering engine and a hammer. - Edge
Everyone loves games about the morally difficult Vietnam War, right? No? Well, then let's add some zombies. That should solve the problem.

Posted 10/06/2009 at 11:51:24 AMLuckily, that's not the same "Leisure Suit Larry" that made ladies moan and conservatives groan back in the late 80s and early 90s. And even if it were, I'd simply ignore them, since not even this tripe can destroy my memories of maturing with the immature Leisure Suit Larry Laffer.
Posted 10/06/2009 at 01:34:25 PMY so much h8 for the ps3. There is some spectacular sh1t on the 360 and especially on the wii.
Posted 10/06/2009 at 02:40:12 PMNo mention of Yaris? Or is this for full games only and not Live/PSN/Wii Store?
Posted 10/06/2009 at 03:30:21 PMhttp://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/yaris
"As the title is completely free, you should ask yourself different questions related to value. For instance, “Is the title worth the 17.5 seconds it will take to download it?” That’s a tough one. You could take out the trash in that amount of time, a much more rewarding task than playing Yaris.-Video Game Talk"
What? no X-Blades? that was terrible. It is literally the worst game ever. period.
Posted 10/06/2009 at 03:58:07 PMWhy don't reviewers grow a pair of balls and tackle the lemons and turkeys from the larger studios?!
One o the biggest lemons of the past two years HAS to be Little Big Planet. Yes it has great music, and it is a little different, but as a platformer player from the '80s I can absolutely say that Little Big Planet if presented as a game in 1988 in 2D would have received 1 out of 10 from every reviewer. The controls are finicky, the game is short, it depends on Easter egg hunts for longevity, and is the first platformer in history so short and useless it NEEDS user created levels to keep it interesting 6 hours after first opening the box.
Seriously, how much do reviewers get paid from Sony to avoid calling Little Big Planet a complete turd fest?
Posted 10/06/2009 at 05:01:21 PMBomberman: Act Zero, it's cover licence of Bomberman from Nintendo nes? hum...
Posted 10/06/2009 at 05:28:27 PMWho the fuck is the moron who wrote this horrible article? Half these games are multiplatform, and Balls of Fury isn't even on the PS3. You really need to go back to school and learn how to do some fuckin research and learn how to write an article. It took me the whole first page to figure out the pictures were above their titles.
Posted 10/06/2009 at 07:50:01 PMya that X-Blades was a load of shit could easily made the list..!!;-)
Posted 10/07/2009 at 03:53:42 AMNo Turning Point Fall of Liberty?
Posted 10/07/2009 at 05:36:28 AMlots of ps3 hate!? what about the xbox!?
Posted 10/07/2009 at 06:21:05 AMI agree with Bob, who wrote this article? Half the time the pictures are below the game then above!!!!! horrible article
Posted 10/07/2009 at 09:03:24 AMHey! Bob and TomT, go write your own article if you're not
Posted 10/07/2009 at 11:39:33 AMhappy. Not to bright are you!? It took me a few seconds to
figure the screenshots out.
BTW Bob, every uncivilized tom, dick and harry can use
profanity. Ever thought about the children reading this
article? No, I guess not.Thats what you get for dropping out
of school after kindergarden...lols
Wow, I can't believe they made Bomberman into a mech game! LOL!
Posted 10/07/2009 at 12:10:24 PMBob: Balls of Fury isn't even on the PS3. You really need to go back to school
Article: 2. Balls of Fury
Metacritic Score (Wii): 19
Because reading an article is apparently not a prerequisite for bitching about how it's written.
Posted 10/07/2009 at 12:46:17 PMAct Zero wasn't impossible. It was just insufferable.
I did the "impossible" and suffered through the game. I found that if you can make it to level 20, not all that impossible a feat, you can easily acquire the powerups necessary to make short work of nearly every round. Bomb-Penetration, Line-Bomb, and Infinite-Bombs allow you to project a matrix of unavoidable fire, Bomb-Through and Block-Through let you navigate through any obstacles, and levels that are a multiple of 20 give you tons of hearts.
The only thing you have to fear is the speed rounds, where a block can drop on you, ending your run immediately, regardless of your heart pickups. Aside from that, the accidental brush with your own bombs might cause you to drop a random powerup, which you have the chance to recover in most cases.
If you are an achievement whore, you have probably played worse and more impossible games than Bomberman Act Zero. You owe it to yourself to beat this one.
Posted 10/07/2009 at 03:48:26 PM@lurch234: Going for my masters in business, thank you. It doesn't matter how quickly YOU figured it out, it's common sense to put the title, then your picture and reasoning below.
@cry some more: The author originally put "PS3" for Balls of Fury. He edited it because he screwed up.
Posted 10/07/2009 at 04:00:02 PM@Bunny
Fuck you, how can you talk all that shit about LBP, did you even consider making your own level, or checking out the ones created by other players?? you know for an "old school" gamer you dont seem to know shit about video games. Why dont you actually go and buy the fucking game, play it, and than judge it. "little different" shit its the only one of its kind you damn turd.
Maybe you shouldnt play games anymore, you've lost your sense of joy, time to move on you old fart, let us enjoy our play time. Spare us from your bullshit and get on with your rotten life.
Posted 10/07/2009 at 06:08:26 PMRelax, people. People want different things in a game. Some want to hold to B saw people in half, some people want to play forge on a side-scrolling wiggles concert
Posted 10/07/2009 at 10:46:09 PMMobile Suit Gundam, very very much so. Man, that game was terrible. I have yet to actually play any good Mobile Suit Gundam video game. Why are they still being made? Why do I even bother to test them out? I really don't know...
Posted 10/08/2009 at 10:11:50 PMThis article is horrible, the only thing good I found about this page are the funny comments below. AND WHY THE FUCK ARE THE IMAGES ABOVE THE TITLE? HOLY SHIT. DID U GO TO ELEMENTARY?
Posted 10/09/2009 at 08:51:03 PMHaha That was another great list. There was only one game on that list that I ever had any interest to playing which was Damnation. I thought it had potential but shorty before release I was proven very wrong, very, very wrong.
Posted 10/11/2009 at 04:57:26 PMGood read, we covered the exact same subject three weeks ago on our site. Check it out and bask in the glory of terrible games.
