When it comes to first person shooters, and being completely enthralled in the action, there are games that you will be able to name almost immediately. Some first person shooters are so popular that they've outlasted most other interactive games with their legacy (read: Counter-Strike). But for every amazing first person shooter there is on the market, there is one equally as bad. Almost as if there was a great karmic balance just trying to reach out and tell us that a balance is always needed, even in the world of gaming. Over the past decade, there have been some stunning first person shooters. Here are some of the worst.

Daikatana (PC)

When you take a hybrid FPS/RPG game into the market, you better be damn sure that it's built to a specific level of game play where you could potentially attract the FPS crowd, or even the RPG crowd. This game does nothing but throw insult to both gaming genres, with it's poor design and serious problem of having no imagination. Daikatana had potential, but after three years of development, Ion Storm developed one of the worst first person shooters to ever grace the gaming world. Another thing that this game had trouble grasping was character development. Normally we would let it slide, but since it was an RPG as well as an FPS, the five-minute cut scenes were really, really mind-numbing.

Conflict Denied Ops (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

With a wide array of reviews ranging from "Worst game ever made", to "I'd rather die than have to play this game again", Conflict Denied Ops is a first person shooter that had no chance of ever being competitive with, say, any other army FPS that was released in its era. As a FPS that was released in 2008 there is much to be desired when you sit down to play. Like the graphics and player models, for example. One of the biggest piss-offs when playing Conflict Denied Ops was the awful audio quality. It sounded like every sound file had been compressed into a single soup can. That being said, there is still a chance to have some fun while playing it, so long as you aren't expecting anything to be overly impressive.

Serious Sam 2 (PC)

Everyone probably remembers Serious Sam (the original), and can tell you that it was one of the most fun games to play in that time period. Serious Sam 2 however, lacks some serious balls. It is fun, yes, but the biggest problems people had encountered were awful jokes, incredibly repetitive levels, and hey - less than mediocre shooting action. What it did right was having a ton of levels, and the same principals as Serious Sam. In this one, you'd expect more graphical upgrades, or at least something new to grip on to, but it simply did not.

Elite Forces: Navy Seals (PC)

Words can not fully describe how terrible this game is unless you actually played it. I picked this up off a dusty corner in the most oblivious spot in Wal-Mart's PC gaming aisle. I should have left it there to rot, but instead I forked over $10 hoping to find a game that would run on my crappy PC. And it did. It's too bad I regret it every day.

Brothers In Arms: Double Time (Wii)

Games with clumsy controls aren't always rare, but Brothers In Arms: Double Time basically defeats itself when it comes to playing on the Wii. As well as having terribly sluggish controls, it also features jagged visualizations in its graphics, and also no multi-player mode. Some people may enjoy the simplistic game play of it, but most will feel like ripping their shirt off and hulking out due to frustration of having spent money on this game.
