ZeniMax, the parent company of Fallout developer Bethesda Softworks, has officially acquired id Software, the makers of Doom and Quake. The acquisition comes as a shock considering the amount of press these sorts of events get before they go down. However, in the case of id Software, ZeniMax claims it will be business as usual on their end with no major changes planned at this time.

CEOs from both companies agree that the move is in the best interest of id so the company can continue to develop and publish hit titles without having to worry about their financial and business security.

The latest game from id Software is Rage, a first-person shooter slated for a 2010 release.
