In honor of today's release of the Resident Evil 5 demo, this week's Fan Art column is devoted to the Resident Evil series and its characters. Unlike some franchises, Resident Evil doesn't star one central character, instead featuring a wide cast and some truly memorable supporting characters and monsters. In other words, you won't see an individual desecrated after the jump. No, you'll see shameful, shameful versions of an entire in-game universe.
I've included the piece above in case you need an introduction to the world of Resident Evil and its long-time villain, the Umbrella Corporation. Like all global evil corporations, Umbrella produces information flyers in pencil. I love the artistic vision of this piece. It's like its warning me away from even looking at it.
The Resident Evil series features not only zombies, but many other signature monsters, such as the Licker. As much as I love to mock fan art, I have to give this piece credit. The Licker looks scarier here than it did in the old PS1 games.
This is NOT one of Resident Evil's monsters, despite what you might think. No, this it one of its heroes, Leon Kennedy. Unfortunately, Leon seems to have contracted Hydrocephalus, causing his gigantically swollen head.
This might be technically the best piece of art to run in this column. However, the artist seems to have no actual idea what human females look like. If women had breasts like that in real life, the automotive air bag would never have been invented.
Here's the same character as above, minus 40 pounds of mammary. She seems to be about to shoot herself in the head. Perhaps because she's missing an eye. Maybe she poked it out on the other Jill's nipple.
Sorry, I don't know what the fuck this is supposed to be, but it scares the shit out of me. Let's move on to the obligatory homoeroticism!
Here's Chris Redfield and bad guy Albert Wesker getting a little more friendly than they are in the games. Pretty creepy. Can't get creepier, can it? WRONG! Let's take things a step further.
The relationship between the two characters is explored a little deeper in this final piece. Not only does the artist explore the homoerotic aspect that all fan art eventually devolves to, but he/she also peppers the piece with that other fan art cliche, the cute "chibi" version of the characters. The capper is the comment about the chibi version of Wesker at the bottom:
"Trying very hard to resist the urge to rape."
Listen, video game fan art creators. I don't know what games you're playing, but I've finished every Resident Evil game, and I have never experienced a rape scene, a man-on-man kiss or anything of the sort in any of them. Are you guys playing a modded version or something? If not, and these images are just in your head, I have a few suggestions for you that might help.
1. Therapy - There are professionals out there who can help.
2. Pornography - If you really must be exposed to these sorts of images, there's far better material available.
3. Suicide. - If imagining video game characters getting it on is the only thing that works for you, this might be your only option.
