Bummed that EGM was shut down? Think you could run a video game magazine in today's rough economy? Well here's your chance - Hardcore Gamer Magazine is for sale. On eBay. For the low, low price of $42,000 you can own this national quarterly gaming publication. Seriously.

Purchase of the mag grants you publishing rights, all associated trademarks, domain names, back issues, and more. The poster of the auction (who I assume to be Editor in Chief Greg Off) explains that he doesn't want to sell, but is being forced to for "personal reasons." So you should feel confident that his decision has nothing to do with the financial challenges of the print media business.

I'm not at all surprised to that Hardcore Gamer is up for sale - the magazine never really figured out its niche in my mind. HGM (as well as publications like Play) always seemed to assume that "hardcore" means "obsessed with Japan." I'm a hardcore gamer, and I could give a rat's ass about anime, Pocky, or those fucking creepy maid cafes. Then again, I've actually been to Toyko. The whole city smells like shit.

So basically, you're paying $42K the brand? That... doesn't seem like a great deal at all.
