EGM is Dead

The news has spread far and wide since its announcement late last night. Electronic Gaming Monthly, the long-running print gaming magazine, is dead. Hearst Publications/The UGO Network have purchased the 1up network, including sites like 1up.com, GameVideos.com, and the rest, but the print publication has been axed and the January 2009 issue is the last.

While many writers will continue on under the new ownership, reports put the job cuts at 30+ people. Joystick Division wishes them the best of luck and hopes they all land on their feet. 1up's official statement on the matter is here.

While not surprising, really fucking disappointing.
