After having been written off as dead many, many times over, is Atari making a legitimate comeback? While our own Chris Ward may not have loved it, Alone in the Dark padded Atari's coffers enough to give them a new lease on life, and the company wisely picked up Vivendi's discarded Ghostbusters game. Now we're starting to get an idea of what other projects Atari has in the works, and they're... not bad, actually.
Eurogamer reported yesterday that new entries in the Baldur's Gate, Dungeons and Dragons, and Test Drive Unlimited franchises are on the way, but we shouldn't expect to see them in the next year. In early 2009, we can expect to see Sam and Max Season 2 and a new Ready to Rumble game for Wii. Atari president Phil Harrison said the company plans to offer additional content for most of its games to keep you playing them for a long time (and, more importantly, to keep second-hand copies off the market). Could it be that Atari might actually become a name worth paying attention to once more?
