Well, it was only a matter of time. Nintendo has officially announced the next iteration of the Nintendo DS. Named the Nintendo DSi, the new version is pretty similar to the DS Lite - except it has a digital camera (or perhaps two - early reports vary, and I can't read Japanese). The DSi also is a bit lighter and has no GBA slot - sorry, Guitar Hero: On Tour fans! Another pic and some additional Nintendo news after the jump.

The DSi also features an SD slot, a web browser, and the ability to download games. You'll also be able to take pics on the DSi, insert the SD card into the Wii, and view the pics on your TV. Connectivity!

Nintendo also announced new Wii titles like Punch-Out!, Sin and Punishment 2, and the ability to save downloaded Wii games to SD cards - the closest Nintendo has come to a Wii storage solution. Finally, it will be re-releasing GameCube games for the Wii, which will not only expand the library, but also clear out Nintendo's warehouses of unsold copies of Chibi-Robo.

Fun fact: The Nintendo DS was originally codenamed Nitro. There's a little code by the UPC on each DS game that starts with the letters "NTR" That's called the Game Code. On a Wii game, the code starts with "RVL," which stands for Revolution.
